Hamilton’s Victory In Brazil Takes Championship To Final Race Of The Season

interlagos.jpg

Isn’t the track shaped a little bit like a landline telephone?

Hello F1 fans! After I had finished watching the Brazilian Grand prix I was truly in awe. Crash after crash, Weather change after weather change, red flag after red flag, this race had it all.

Lewis Hamilton won the race, which means the title will be decided in the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi.

CRASHES, CRASHES AND MORE CRASHES

There was torrential rain during the start of the race, so it had to be started under the safety car. It went in after 8 laps.formula-one-f1-brazilian-grand-prix-3

Romain Grosjean crashed under the safety car!

When the race properly started, Hamilton- in the lead managed to make a 3 second gap to second place Rosberg before the the safety car came out as a result of Marcus Ericsson’s crash at the penultimate (final) corner.

Oh! Gotta hurt…

The race was later resumed, until Kimi Raikkonen spun on the pit straight, which red flagged the race. A little over half an hour later, the race was restarted under the safety car for 7 laps until the conditions were too wet to race which forced the race director to halt the race.

The race race resumed. It ran under a green flag or 16 laps until Felipe Massa crashed and ended up in the exact same place as Ericsson. This brought out the safety car for 7 laps and the race ran until the end.

                                YOU CRASHED! WHO CARES

_92424096_massa4_rex.jpgBrazilian driver Felipe Massa’s final race is coming up soon. This was his final home race. A race he will remember for years to come. After he crashed and got out of the car, the crowd cheered and hollered. They sounded a crowd at a soccer world cup final! The williams driver was struggling to fight back tears with his wife and child.

     VERSTAPPEN WITH EXQUISITE DRIVE

When Red Bull gambled by putting Max Verstappen on the intermediate tires and it did’t pay off we all thought “Oh he is out of it. He might not finish in the top 10!” However he put on the “extreme” wet weather tires and flew! He was 13th at one time but finished third after passing Sergio Perez with 2 laps to go. He is really living up to his nickname Mad Max.

Hamilton Victorious in United States GP

Hello F1 fans! Ever since the summer break, Nico Rosberg had been on excellent form and had managed to pull out a 33 point gap to Lewis Hamilton in the championship. (Also curtesy of Hamilton’s retirement at Malaysia.) But Hamilton managed to claw back some points by winning this race.102316-lewis-hamilton.vadapt.980.high.48.png

https://youtu.be/bkVByvuuMC0

The laps of Hamilton and Rosberg are compared and analyzed by Paul Di Resta.

ROSBERG RECOVERS TO SECOND AFTER BEING PASSED AT START

Nico’s start was pretty good- he was second on the grid behind his teammate. However the fast starting Daniel Ricciardo on the super soft tires passed him at the second corner. It stayed like that for a big part of the race until the virtual safety car came out and Rosberg capitalized by pitting under the period where the race was stopped. He basically got a “free” pitstop. Ricciardo couldn’t do this because he had pitted recently for his last set of medium tires. If he put on the more grippy, less durable soft tires, he wouldn’t have been able to finish the race without pitting again.

https://youtu.be/DzZ_FDIUDhE

RAIKKONEN AND VERSTAPPEN  WITH STRANGE RETIREMENTS

Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen both had very strange pitstops. They both retired shortly after. When Verstappen pitted, the team wasn’t ready! However, they were pretty quick getting the tires out and onto the car. Verstappen retired with a mechanical failure a lap later. He picked a very bad service road to park his car, which brought out the virtual safety car and ruined a lot of people’s races. With Raikkonen, the team was ready, but he was released too early. The right rear wheel jack was still on the tyre when he left the pits!

Unexpected Turn of Events Give Ricciardo Win

Hello F1 fans! Yesterday I think I witnessed something I could never imagine in the Malaysian Grand Prix. Let me tell you what happened…

HAMILTON IN TOP FORM DURING QUALIFYING

f13fdec50e9d9558f597acb26a5662ad.jpeg

Lewis Hamilton was truly in a class of his own during qualifying. After Singapore he was fired up again and delivered one of the best laps of the season. Nico Rosberg came close to matching Lewis’ lap but made a mistake on the tricky final corner. He lined up in second. The birthday boy Max Verstappen did well to out qualify his team mate Daniel Ricciardo for only the third time this season. The two Ferraris locked out the third row.

FRONT RUNNERS INVOLVED IN FIRST CORNER COLLISION

https://youtu.be/G_qlGprBZAA

Nico Rosberg, Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel were all involved in a collision at the first corner. Vettel and Verstappen were side by side into the first corner, until Vettel decided to break a little bit later. At the same moment Rosberg turned in on the pair and tagged Vettel which caused the Mercedes driver to spin. The collision also damaged Vetel’s suspension.

        HAMILTON RETIRES WITH ENGINE FAILURE

https://youtu.be/xdXoHvuI8ZI

Just listen to the disappointment on his face when he says “Oh, no, no!” He had been on his best form he had been for the entire season and ends up with a retirement. Well they always say “Sports can be cruel.”

BOTH RED BULLS BATTLE FOR WIN

image5.img.640.medium.jpg

Ricciardo and Verstappen go side by side

Even before Hamilton’s retirement, both Red Bulls had been evenly matched and had been second and third the entire race. A crucial point in the race was this battle you can see in the picture. Daniel Ricciardo managed to fend off Max Verstappen’s overtaking attempt. After that skirmish, Lewis Hamilton’s retirement brought out the virtual safety car. Red Bull reacted to this by double stacking both the cars. Double stacking is to pit one driver on the team then the other right after. Because the cars weren’t very far apart, Verstappen got delayed. Plus the team principal made an order to not fight for position to prevent a crash. It would be pretty painful to throw away your first 1 and 2 since 2013.

THE “SHOEY” IS BACK!

Daniel Ricciardo started a new thing called the “shoey”when he puts some of the champagne into his shoe to celebrate a podium. Two weeks ago he said he would bring it back when he won a race. Well that time came.

Season Update: Last Stage of Season

Hello F1 fans! The season has been extremely exciting. Especially the battle for the title. This post will reflect on the last few races.

ROSBERG DOMINANT IN ITILIAN GRAND PRIX

After the Saturday qualifying, Lewis Hamilton looked set to take his 50th career win after taking pole by over half a second. However, at the start he threw away the race win by bogging down and was in 6th by the first corner. While his teammate ran away with the victory, he made a good recovery passing Ricciardo and Bottas and getting into fourth. Both the Ferraris pitted, and were on a two stop strategy allowing Hamilton to pass them.

Rosberg won the race, with Hamilton in second place followed by Sebastian Vettel who clinched the final podium place.

ROSBERG BARLEY HOLDS ON FOR VICTORY IN SINGAPORE

Nico Rosberg barley held on for victory in last week’s Singapore Grand Prix after a late charge from Daniel Ricciardo. Here is how everything unfolded:

EXCITNG SATURDAY QUALIFYING

Nico Rosberg again showed his class by taking pole for the race. There was more action behind him especially when out of Nowhere Daniel Ricciardo did a personal best final sector to beat Lewis Hamilton to the second spot on the grid. Kimi Raikkonen rounded out the second row by qualifying fourth. Meanwhile Sebastian Vettel was out in the first part of qualifying after a suspension failure.

https://youtu.be/FRWle_pKdYA

EVENTFUL START SEES FIRST LAP CRASH

At the start a lot of the cars got bunched up and unfortunately Carlos Sainz tagged Nico Huldenberg and the Force India driver ended up into the wall. Max Verstappen was very lucky not to get collected by Hulkenberg. It was just another racing incident, no one to blame.

https://youtu.be/zpKIb5cTiq4

LATE CHARGE BY RICCIARDO SPICES UP RACE

Lewis Hamilton had suffered brake problems for the entire race and had got passed by Kimi Raikkonen. Mercedes changed the strategy to allow Hamilton to re pass Raikkonen and claim third, however this neutralized the threat to Ricciardo. When Red Bull realized this, the pitted Ricciardo and put him on fresh super soft types with the gap just under 30 seconds. Ricciardo made his charge for the win. Setting fastest lap after fastest lap, he got the gap under 5 seconds, then his tires started to fade. Rosberg won the race by only 4 tents of a second. Thanks you Red Bull for giving us a great race.

Rosberg Victorious in Collision Packed Belgian Grand Prix

Hello F1 fans! I was extremely excited for this race because it was the first one since the summer break. And this race certainly did not disappoint!

ROSBERG TAKES POLE IN PENALTY-RIDDEN QUALIFYING

Saturday’s qualifying was jam-packed with penalties, including a 55 place grid penalty for Lewis Hamilton! His teammate Nico Rosberg took full advantage by getting pole position, ahead of Max Verstappen who was followed by Kimi Raikkonen.

XPB_835205_1200px-1.jpg

VERSTAPPEN AND TWO FERRARIS HAVE FIRST CORNER INCIDENT

This first lap incident really changed the outcome of the race. Max Verstappen got a bad start and got passed by Raikkonen. The young and feisty Verstappen made an aggressive move going on the inside of Raikkonen in the tight La Source corner. On the outside was Sebastian Vettel who took a tight line and hit Raikkonen. He ended up the wrong way, stranded in the middle of the track. He recovered to finish sixth, while his teammate finished ninth.

KEVIN MAGNESSEN HAS HUGE SHUNT AT RADILLON

This incident shows how much Formula 1 safety has improved. Magnussen only escaped with a slight limp and injured ankle. Drivers go through Radillon at 290 kph. This accident brought out the red flag.

HAMILTON HAS RECORD RACE BY FINISHING ON PODIUM AFTER STARTING THIRD

Starting 21st, Hamilton benefitted from all of the incidents and was 13th by the time everything had cleared up. Because he started on the medium tires, the drivers in front of him had to make a pitstop earlier. The red flag bunched the field up again, so he was able to pass more cars to finish third. Well done Lewis!

Season Update: No Halo for 2017

Hello F1 fans! A lot has happened in the first half of the season and were now into the summer break. Here are the Most recent headlines:

               F1 VOTES AGAINST CLOSED COCKPITS

Lots of safety advances have been made to protect the driver. However, there is still 1 weak point. The head. In 2009, a part of Rubens Barrichello’s car flew off it and struck Felipe Massa who was following close behind in the head. This accident would have not have hurt mass if there was some kind of closed cockpit “Halo”design. However, the F.I.A, all the teams and other figures in F1 have decided to not have the closed cockpit design for 2017.

4ef220ca1c803631cc5e346e28adf72b.jpg

This is Ferrari’s proposal. A cage type shield that could stop something like a tyre from hitting the driver’s head.

maxresdefault.jpg

Here is what Red Bull came up with. They call it the Aeroscreen. It is kind of like a windscreen you would get in a normal car, except it is for F1 cars.

There are still a lot of questions and uncertainty about the Halo design, like what if the car was upside down and the driver couldn’t get out of the car? I am glad they put it off until 2018 so F1 can do more research and further develop the structure.

Like I promised I would share the results of the last race. Well, Lewis Hamilton won, after a bad start from Nico Rosberg dropped him to fourth. Hamilton’s lead over Rosberg  is now 19 points! A complete turn around.

Mercedes 1&2 in Hungarian Grand Prix

Hello F1 fans! This post is about yesterday’s Hungarian Grand Prix. It wasn’t the most exciting race of the season, but saw Lewis Hamilton take the lead in the drivers championship for the first time this season! At one point, Nico Rosberg had a 43 point lead! The race wasn’t completely plain sailing for Mercedes though.

                                HEAVY RAIN IN QUALIFYING

01_1.jpg

When you follow behind a car, the visibility is almost zero!

The pouring rain in qualifying saw a record 4 red flags in a single session! A red flag means the race or qualifying session must be stopped. Rosberg stole pole from Hamilton in dramatic fashion who Fernando Alonso spun, and brought out the yellow flag, which forced Hamilton to slow down. Rosberg took pole position, followed by Hamilton, Ricciardo, Verstappen and Vettel.

                                    EXCITING RACE START

Lots of people were expecting an exciting start like last year and that is what we got. At one point. Daniel Ricciardo had taken the lead of the race! However, in the second corer, Hamilton passed the Australian in the second corner. (Sorry, there are no uploaded youtube videos that show the start.

BOTH RED BULLS MANAGE TO FEND OFF FERRARIS

Max Verstappen had a slow pitstop, which put him behind both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen (who started 14th). He got stuck behind Raikkonen and formed a buffer for Vettel who later caught up to Ricciardo but couldn’t pass him. At the end of the race Raikkonen and Verstappen had a battle at the end of the race and eventually collided, damaging Raikkonen’s front wing. Verstappen managed to hang on to fourth. Red Bull is now within 1 point of Ferrari in the Constructors’s (Team) championship

Fact of the day: Saturday’s qualifying session set the record for most red flags.

Hamilton Wins After Mercedes Collide

Hello F1 fans! The Austrian Grand Prix provided a spectacular race that left us at the edge of our seats from start to finish.

                 DRAMATIC QUALIFYING MIXES UP GRID

Coming into the race, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg both had 5 place grid penalties for gearbox changes. Qualifying got wet in the middle of the final session, but improved towards the end. After all the grid penalties, this was the order of the top 5 on the grid: Hamilton, Hulkenberg, Button, Raikkonen and Ricciardo.

Jenson Button had a good race finishing sixth, scoring vital points for the struggling McLaren Honda team

                                          MERCEDES COLLIDE ON LAST LAP

Approaching a tight right hander on the last lap, Hamilton got a lot more speed approaching the corner and attempted a passing maneuver on the outside of Rosberg. However, Rosberg did not try to to turn until very late, and by the the time he applied full lock on the steering wheel, they had almost collided. It is similar to what Hamilton did to him at Austin last year.

See the similarity?

                               WHERlIN SCORES POINT FOR MANOR

Pascal Wherein scored Manor’s first point since Jules Bianchi finished ninth at the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix. He started in ninth after a weird qualifying and was running in eleventh before the retirement of Sergio Perez on the lap last of the race that promoted him to tenth. Congratulations Manor!

VETTLES TYRE EXPLODES ON LAP 26

While leading the race, Sebastian Vettel’s right rear tyre exploded while he was going on the main straight. Pirelli said that the failure was caused by debris. He had done 30 laps on the Super-Soft tyre before it exploded. He was a contender to win the race even after starting 9th because of a grid penalty.

I hope you enjoyed my post, and I am really looking forward for the British Grand Prix. I will now be posting race posts on Monday.

Vestappen Wins First Race as Both Mercedes Crash

Hello F1 fans! A lot has happened over the last week! It has been a big week in Formula 1. The race itself was shocking. Let me first tell you what happened leading up to the big race.

VERSTAPPEN REPLACES KVYAT AT RED BULL

Unknown.jpeg

The 22 year old got 2 podiums in 23 starts for Red Bull

Max Verstappen was recently promoted from the junior team Toro Rosso to Red Bull. That meant demoting Daniil Kyvat to Toro Rosso. Red Bull have the right to do this because both the teams are owned by the same person. I was really surprised  when I found out. However, I think lots of people saw this coming. The talented 18 year old had a way better season than Kvyat. Red Bull would have also wanted to keep him away from Ferrari and Mercedes. Like everyone else, I thought he wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure. Well, he proved me wrong by winning on his debut.

EXCITING SATURDAY BUILDS UP TO GREAT RACE

On Saturday morning, on the third and final practice Ferrari looked very quick, being only 2 tenths of a second of the fastest time. However things were very different in qualifying when they were out qualified by both Red Bulls. The Mercedes had another front row lock out, with Hamilton taking pole.

Daniel-Ricciardo-2016-Spanish-GP-Qualifying-Red-Bull-Racing.jpg

Daniel Ricciardo drove a monster lap, out qualifying new team mate Verstappen

BOTH MERCEDES CRASH ON FIRST LAP

This crash changed the entire outcome of the race. Mercedes chairman Niki Lauda said the incident was “Unacceptable”. The chances of this happening was probably 1000 to 1. Let’s see what happened.

  1. Rosberg realizes this very late and moves to the right to block Hamilton
  2. Hamilton attempts pass on Rosberg, going on the inside.
  3. Hamilton goes much faster than Rosberg in first corner, gaining on him quickly.
  4. Rosberg passes Hamilton in the first corner, giving him the lead.
  5. Rosberg’s late move forces Hamilton on the grass, causing him to loose control and take out Rosberg.

DIFFERENT STRATEGIES FOR LEADERS MAKES RACE UNPREDICTABLE

In the race, there were 4 different drivers who had a chance to win! 2 from Red Bull and 2 from Ferrari The different strategies  made the race battle brew nicely. Verstappen and Raikkonen were on a 2 stop strategy, while Vettel and Ricciardo were on the the more aggressive and racier 3 stopper. The drivers on the 2 stop strategy made their final stop with about 30 laps to go, which I thought was way to long. However, the two drivers did well taking care of their tires, and managed to nurse them to the end. Vettel and Ricciardo weren’t able to close the gap, because they were fighting for third.

Raikkonen and Verstappen drove brilliantly, making their tires last for over 30 laps
