Hello F1 fans! I barley survived the 122 day long off season. Yes, I seriously counted down the days, starting from November 27 (The last race of last season) to March 26, the day of the season opener in Australia! I was extremely excited for this race, and for very good reason. This year, there were dramatic rule changes, made to accompany, faster, meaner and much harder to drive F1 cars! What this also means, is that the teams will have to start from scratch, because their information on the other cars they made will be irrelevant! This means that the other teams will be able to catch up to Mercedes, who have dominated the hybrid era of F1.
HAMILTON EDGES OUT RIVALS IN NAIL BITING QUALIFYING
This qualifying session came down to the wire, and was settled by less than 3 tenths of a second! In Q3, Hamilton posted a very quick time of 1:22.188 the put him on provisional pole. His teammate Valterri Bottas failed to beat that time, but it was good enough to secure him a spot on the front row. However, Sebastian Vettel put in a lap that dispatched Bottas by less than a tenth of a second!
HOW DID THINGS PAN OUT?
Hamilton had a slightly better start than the rest of the field. The order stayed very much the same into the first corner. There was a lot of speculation that overtaking would be harder because the increased downforce created means it is hard to follow closely behind another car. However, this did not seem to happen to Sebastian Vettel, as he was managing to keep up with the Mercedes! However, he was not quick enough to pass the British driver. So Ferrari had to think of a unique pit stop strategy to give Vettel a chance of winning the race. When the leader came into the pits, Vettel stayed out and put a few quick laps in. Hamilton then caught up to the slower Max Verstappen, who held the Briton up. Sebastian then pitted and came out just in front of the pair. By then time Hamilton dispatched Verstappen, Vettel was off in the distance and went on to win the race.
WHAT ELSE HAPPENED?

The back bone of any car is the engine. In this post, I will talk about different engines and the characteristics of them.
WHY DO ENGINES HAVE WEIRD SOUNDING NAMES?
You might have heard of an engine that is called a V8 or a V6. Then you wonder why they have those names. Well, let me break it down for you.
The number in the engine name represents how many cylinders the engine has. Most “V” engines have six, eight, ten or sometimes twelve cylinders.
NATURALLY ASPIRATED VS. TURBOCHARGED
There is a simple rule with engines. More cylinders = more power. In a V12 engine, a few more tiny explosions happen at once than in a V10. This will allow the V12 engine to burn more fuel in a shorter time. However, the less powerful engine can make up for having less cylinders by adding a turbocharger. A turbocharger is a pair of fans that are turned by the air coming out of the exhaust. The turbine forces more air into the cylinders, which allows more fuel to be burned at once.
HOW MANY CYLINDERS DO YOU PREFER?
Scuderia Ferrari have been part of F1 since it started in 1950. They have built cars that have helped them win 16 constructors championships, making them the most successful team in F1 history. I found a very cool youtube video that show some great Ferrari cars and their engine sounds. Enjoy!
What is your favorite f1 sound?
I hope you enjoyed my post and learned a lot about engines!
Fact of the day:
Hello F1 fans! As promised, I’ve written a post all about the drastically different 2017 Formula 1 cars!
WHY IS THERE SUCH A CHANGE?
Some thought the last season was very exciting, but some didn’t. The sport received lots of complaints from fans saying that the races are one sided and boring, and the engines are very quiet. The drivers even had their say. They complained that they can’t push very hard in the race because they will damage their sensitive tyres. Luckily, the FIA listened to these complaints and addressed the issue by promising faster and more dramatic looking cars.
UP TO 5 SECONDS FASTER!
A lot of the modifications have helped make the cars a lot faster and more fun to drive. One thing is the tyres. This year, the tyres are wider, bigger and more mean and scary looking. The width has increased by about 25 percent from last year. The also gives the driver more grip through corners. And yes, the drivers can go fast on these tyres without damaging them.
NOW THAT LOOKS LIKE A RACE CAR!
The cars have become much wider and heavier. The witch has increased fromm 1800mm in 2016 to 2000mm in 2017. The maximum weight has increased from 705 kg to 722kg to accommodate the bigger tyres and other changes.

Hello F1 fans! Welcome to the 2016 season Kidslovef1 awards! I this post I will award some funny moments from the season. Lets get started!
FUNNIEST TEAM RADIO MESSAGE:
2.Max Verstappen: “There is a giant lizard on the track!” This memorable statement came at the Singapore grand prix. The Red Bull drive wasn’t lying!
3. Sebastian Vettel: “Honestly! What are we doing, racing or ping pong?” An angry Sebastian Vettel after he was almost hit by Daniel Ricciardo.
4. Sebastian Vettel: “Uh, my bum is feeling a little bit wet!” During the Russian Grand Prix, Vettel’s car had a drinks delivery system malfunction.
MOST UNEXPECTED MOMENT
The most unexpected moment of the season was the climax of the Mexican Grand Prix. At the end of the back straight, Max Verstappen was running third behind Sebastian Vettel. At the end of the long pit straight, a failed passing maneuver caused Verstappen to cut a corner, which helped him pass the Ferrari driver. Vettel was infuriated, saying some very harsh comments over the team radio. Because he didn’t give the position back, Verstappen was penalized and lost third place. Because of the quick turn of events, Sebastian Vettel had to sprint all the way to the podium! However, this wasn’t it! After the race, Vettel lost third place because he broke a rule by making a sudden movement under braking when he was wheel to wheel with Daniel Ricciardo.
I hope you enjoyed my post, and the next one will be all about the drastically changed 2017 cars!
Hello F1 fans! Welcome to the first part of the 1st annual Kidslovef1 post season awards! This 5 part series will cover awards from the best performing teams to the most memorable team radio soundbites. This series has it all!
AWARD #1: BEST ACHIEVING TEAMS
This award goes to Red Bull Racing and Force India!
RED BULL: THE NEW BEST OF THE REST FROM MERCEDES
After a disappointing 2015 season and difficulties with their engine supplier Renault, Red Bull looked like they would have a similar season in 2016. They started very slow in the first four races, achieving only 1 podium finish. They then demoted one of their drivers, Daniil Kvyat and promoted one of the drivers from the Junior team called Toro Rosso. His name was Max Verstappen.
Their young new recruit gave the team a big boost by winning his first race in the Spanish grand prix! The continued that trend in the mid season with podiums in Monaco, Austria, Britain and Hungary. Red Bull were edging closer to their main rivals, Ferrari, Who were second in the Constructors (team) Championship. Then came the Malaysian Grand Prix. After 15 races, a win for Daniel Ricciardo still remained elusive. Qualifying 4th, a first corner collision put two of his main rivals out of the running. For most of the race, Ricciardo ran second behind lewis Hamilton, until the Mercedes driver’s engine failed, Putting Ricciardo in 1st – the position he stayed in for the rest of the race!
FORCE INDIA: SMALLER BUDGET THAN THE BIG BOYS? WHO CARES?
Force India really made a name for themselves this year! They are a well respected team, because they are very close to their richer rivals, Red Bull, Ferrari and Williams.
They got this award for being consistent. Force India finished in the points in all of the final 12 races of the season! Their talented driver Sergio Perez produced two podiums in Azerbaijan and Monaco. They beat their close rivals Williams, who have almost twice their budget!
AWARD #2: UNDERACHEIVENG TEAMS
This (unwanted) award goes to Haas and Ferrari.
FERRARI: REMEMBER LAST YEAR WHEN THEY WON RACES?
If I could pick a gesture to describe their season, I would pick a sigh.
In 2014, they fired 3 team principals in that winless season. In 2015 they had a new team principal Maurizio Arrivabene and new deer Sebastian Vettel. They had a great season, wining 3 races and getting on the podium in many, many races. The team was going into 2017 with high expectations. They started the season well, consistently getting on the podium, but fell of the pace in the second half of the season with only two podiums in the last 12 races. Their lead driver Sebastian Vettel was frustrated in every way you can imagine! They will be going in to this year as hungry and motivated as ever, determined to make their claim.
HAAS: PROMISE ALONE WONT WIN F1 RACES
When the successful Nascar team Haas entered F1 everyone was very excited to see how they would do. In their first race, the finished sixth and was the first new F1 team to finish in the points in their first race since Toyota in 2002.
In their second race they did even better by finishing 5th. Everyone thought wow, is Haas really this good? The new American team showed promise. However, as the season went on, Haas lost their way, and fell of the pace. One of their drivers, Esteban Gutierrez, failed to score a point for the entire season! I think his nickname should be Mr. 11th place because he finished 11th on five occasions!
I hope you enjoyed my post and stay tuned for the second part of the 2016 F1 season Kidslovef1 awards!
Hello F1 fans! A lot has happened in the wold of F1 since I’ve last posted. Like this:
Nico Rosberg sealed the deal by finishing second behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton in the final race. Rosberg won the championship by only 5 points!
HOW DID IT HAPPEN?
After the 2015 season when Hamilton ran away with the championship, I thought that Nico Rosberg would win the next season. And he did! I knew after Hamilton had won his third title, he wouldn’t be as motivated.
During the 2016 season there were rumours of Hamilton taking a sabbatical (When someone takes a short break). Although that did not happen, it is a sign he is not enjoying the sport as much.
A lot of people think that Hamilton is a better driver than Rosberg, including me. However, this season Rosberg was more consistent and had more luck with reliability. 1 major point in the season was the Malaysian Grand Prix when Hamilton retired due to an engine failure.
The deficit he faced was simply too big to claw back in the amount of races that were left although, he almost did.
After his world championship win, Nico Rosberg shocked the world when he announced his decision to retire from the sport. His replacement is going to be Valterri Botttas.
What do you think about his decision?
I hope you enjoyed my post and the 1st annual Kidslovef1 Awards Series will begin in my next pos!. I will cover awards in a four to five post series. I hope you enjoy it!
Hello F1 fans! It is that time of year again. The number of races until the end of the season has dwindled all the way down to the final race at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
And this year’s final race will be exciting. We have 2 great drivers that have a shot at winning the championship: Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. This post will tell you the where each of the 2 have to finish for a certain outcome as well as other things at stake lower down on the grid.
ROSBERG OR HAMILTON? WHO CAN WIN?
Right now Nico Rosberg is 12 points ahead of his main rival. If It were to be a normal race (Mercedes 1 and 2), Nico would win the championship. However in sports, anything can happen. A retirement, mechanical failure, crash or bad start could happen. Never say never. Here is a very helpful page made by BBC sport on the results of different outcomes in the race.
WHAT ELSE IS AT STAKE?
There are a lot of tight battles going on in the drivers championship. Especially for 4th and 5th between Sebastian Vettel A.K.A (Seb) and Max Verstappen A.K.A (Mad Max). They are separated by 5 points! Also The battle for tenth between Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa is very close. Here are the current standings for the top 10 ranked drivers:
SAUBER VS. MANOR: BATTLE OF THE BACK MARKERS
We might not know it, but a lot goes on with the teams ranked a little bit lower on the grid. Being a member of these teams can be just as stressful as working for a top team like Mercedes or Red Bull. Smaller Budget, less workers, underdeveloped car and many, many other problems. Right now the two teams that form this “Caboose” are Manor Racing and Sauber F1 team. The two small teams are fighting for the scraps. Every last point or position is crucial for the the survival of both these teams. Only one point separates these two with Sauber leading Manor on two points.
I am looking forward to this race and hope it is a good one!
I have written a post a long tine ago about when I went o the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Enjoy!
Also congratulations to Jimmie Johnson for winning the American Nascar sprint cup on Sunday.
