Hello F1 fans! I was extremely excited for this race because it was the first one since the summer break. And this race certainly did not disappoint!
ROSBERG TAKES POLE IN PENALTY-RIDDEN QUALIFYING
Saturday’s qualifying was jam-packed with penalties, including a 55 place grid penalty for Lewis Hamilton! His teammate Nico Rosberg took full advantage by getting pole position, ahead of Max Verstappen who was followed by Kimi Raikkonen.
VERSTAPPEN AND TWO FERRARIS HAVE FIRST CORNER INCIDENT
This first lap incident really changed the outcome of the race. Max Verstappen got a bad start and got passed by Raikkonen. The young and feisty Verstappen made an aggressive move going on the inside of Raikkonen in the tight La Source corner. On the outside was Sebastian Vettel who took a tight line and hit Raikkonen. He ended up the wrong way, stranded in the middle of the track. He recovered to finish sixth, while his teammate finished ninth.
KEVIN MAGNESSEN HAS HUGE SHUNT AT RADILLON
This incident shows how much Formula 1 safety has improved. Magnussen only escaped with a slight limp and injured ankle. Drivers go through Radillon at 290 kph. This accident brought out the red flag.
HAMILTON HAS RECORD RACE BY FINISHING ON PODIUM AFTER STARTING THIRD
Starting 21st, Hamilton benefitted from all of the incidents and was 13th by the time everything had cleared up. Because he started on the medium tires, the drivers in front of him had to make a pitstop earlier. The red flag bunched the field up again, so he was able to pass more cars to finish third. Well done Lewis!
WHAT ELSE HAPPENED?

There was lots of support for Max Verstappen, who was born only 50 miles from Spa.

Esteban Ocon made his debut for Manor, replacing Rio Haryanto

Former F1 driver Mark Webber was convinced by his fellow Aussie Daniel Ricciardo to drink champagne from his shoe like he did in the last race
Fact of the day: Lewis Hamilton became the podium finisher with the lowest starting position in the history of the Belgian grand prix.
